Project Overview:
At the heart of this project will be the creation of the People’s Folk Songs Coin. This coin will serve as an indicator of the overall health of the project and function as the primary umbrella currency. The central focus of the project is the creation of unique songs, each of which will have its own corresponding cryptocurrency token— broadly referred to as songcoin.
The Core Philosophy:
First and foremost, we are a music project. Music is what we love to create, regardless of the platform, promotional strategy, or monetization method we choose. That will never change.
Secondly, we are a punk crypto project. In this context, "punk" means we operate on a low budget, embrace a DIY approach, and have a different perspective on intellectual property. Our first major goal is to fund every new songcoin using the revenue from existing songcoins. We haven’t achieved that yet, as we are still self-financed, but as our body of work grows and more time passes, we are confident we will get there.
Why did we decide to experiment with songcoins? Initially, we considered launching a single token—a creator token—but we encountered a few issues with that idea. The biggest concern was the longevity of the project. To sustain our work, we need to sell tokens. But what happens when we sell all of them? Do we just exit the project and start a new one? That didn’t feel like the right answer.
This is why we ultimately decided to create a separate token for each song—hence, songcoins. With multiple tokens, we can fund ourselves in a sustainable way without drastically affecting any single token’s price. Moving small amounts—0.01% here, 0.01% there—allows us to maintain financial momentum indefinitely. This ensures that we never run out of ways to fund our work and eliminates any reason to abandon the project.
While we believed this was a solid approach to monetization, the idea still lacked substance. Without a clear purpose, songcoins would be no different from the average memecoin. They needed utility.
The great thing about music, unlike memes, is that it inherently has utility. Music has greater replay value than memes, and it can serve as a building block for other artistic creations—especially video-based projects. This is where our unique perspective on intellectual property comes into play.
Is the creation of art an act of making something new, or is it an act of discovery? There is a quote attributed to the famous Italian sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti: “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”
We love this quote because we believe that art—music, in our case—is something we discover rather than own outright. The idea of having absolute control over its interpretation and usage is something we are not entirely comfortable with. That’s why we give others permission to use our music.
However, since we don’t live in a utopia where basic needs are automatically met, we had to implement a few safeguards. Anyone can use our music, whether to create something entirely new or to enhance an existing variation of a song, but there are a couple of rules:
1. Credit is sacred. You must properly credit the original "discoverer" (the author). This is non-negotiable.
2. Engagement with the corresponding token is encouraged. While optional, interacting with the relevant songcoin helps us track usage and promote the songcoin culture.
That’s it. We don’t want financial constraints to prevent anyone from creating their best art.
What do we mean when we say you have permission to use our music? You can use it in your videos, films, or any other artistic project of your imagination. You can create cover versions and collect 100% of the royalties from your own recordings. All we ask is that you properly credit us. In doing so, you naturally promote our project, which we consider sufficient compensation.
The only restriction is that our music cannot be used in advertisements for products unrelated to the song in question.
Lastly, with this project, we hope to establish a new meta in the crypto space. We’ve seen the problems with memecoins—the biggest being their lack of utility, which isn’t going away anytime soon. However, it’s undeniable that memecoins hold value as part of internet pop culture.
Our vision is that songcoins will eventually displace memecoins. In many ways, they share similarities—music, like memes, can capture ideas, jokes, and trends. But music has a deeper meaning; it works on a different level and evokes stronger emotions upon consumption. More importantly, music can be a building block for other forms of art.
A song’s lifespan is much longer than that of a meme. And for those reasons, we believe that in the end, songcoins will prevail.
